M4 help needed Empty M4 help needed

Post by Drogdar 29th January 2012, 8:15 pm

I have an A&K flattop m4 "s-system". had it about seven years.

It would make a sound like the battery was dead and would only pull the piston back about half way. tried a few different batteries same thing.

I decided that was the time to upgrade. I had everything in the upper replaced with Gaurder parts, went with a crane stock and upped the battery to 9.6v, new shims (forget what brand... not the cheap ones), systema metal hop up, systema magnum motor (long), and a systema m120 spring.

SAME

EFFING

PROBLEM.

We can not find out what the problem is. I would think think that the motor would be able to pull the spring back with 9.6v battery. My friend who did all the work thinks that I may need to go to a 11.1v but im not so sure.

Im about to order some ICS gears for it as two of the gears are missing a tooth. Is any one here good at trouble shooting them? Im prepared to send it to evike to get it fixed but would much rather have someone work on it I can meet face to face (plus I really don't want to ship it).

Oh, and as always, Im open to suggestions.

A quick test, Remove motor from hand grip, attach battery normally and push trigger to ensure motor isn't crap, if it spins freely, then you might not have the motor at the right height.Very Happy

1. Then your best bet is take it back down to the shell and start over , it might be that you have place something else in the gear box wrong.

2. Or Maybe put it in trash can and buy yourself a new one.

3. Or Get Dino, Plank, or CDR (He's Retired from overhauling AEGs) for a Small fee to overhaul your AEG.

without seeing the gb...its like blind men describing elephants to each other. so lets play that game. its always fun. you said in your original post that two of the gears were missing teeth. i would bet that might be an issue. i will have to look around my toolboxes...i may have a set of gears.

1. SHIM YOUR GEARS. WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE IT RIGHT,PUT IT TOGETHER WITHOUT THE TOP PRTION (PISTON, SPRING, CYLINDER, CYLINDER HEAD, ETC.). TIGHTEN ALL OF THE SCREWS AND MAKE SURE THE GEARS ARE NOT RUBBING AGAINTS THE GEARBOX AND/OR EACH OTHER. CHECK FOR FREESPIN. A LOT IF PEOPLE FORGET TO DO THIS WHEN SHIMMING THE GEARBOX, THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CHECK THIS IS WITH THE GB TIGHTENED TOGETHER.

2. CHECK THE PISTON'S MOVEMENT. WHEN U HAVE EVERYTHING PUT TOGETHER, INSERT A STEEL ROD/SCREW DRIVER THAT FITS THROUGH THE AIR NOZZLE. PUSH THE PISTON ALL THE WAY BACK AND CHECK FOR ANY BINDING.

3. MOTOR HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT. TIGHTEN IT UP (NOT TOO TIGHT) AND SLOWLY ADJUST IT (LOOSENING) WHILE FIRING.

HOPE THIS HELP!!!Very Happy

there's the walk through from "The Man". Haven't had a chance to find those gears yet. If you need help with the repair we can figure something out. I could always use parts.

I noticed you said that your missing a tooth or two from the gears. Next time you break the GB down go over every tooth to make sure you don't have a part of a loose tooth between the gears. The smallest amount of debris can cause the gears to lock up. Try and jewlers flat-head and clean inbetween each tooth. (always and good idea even when just doing a rebuild.

You would notice the hanging up when testing the shims as CDR said above.
