Well, it's a sniper rifle. So it's pretty. And know what you want to do with it first. And how it plays, yadda yadda yadda.

UTG-- just a stateside re-brander of the rest of the Maruzen Clone L96s. FPS out of the box is 400-480 depending on what the china-man who assembled your gun had for breakfast. Finish is mediocre, it's got some horrible seam lines. Can usually be taken care of with some light sanding and your favorite flavor of rattle-can.

Internals are pretty solid, it uses a 90 degree trigger sear system which is not prone to breaking (like stock VSR/BAR/Clone trigger sears which are 45deg and wear out FAST at any FPS over 350ish). The factory installed spring is usually good for 450-500 with a good cleaning, a new O-ring, and some good silicon oil. While the internals inside the cylinder are indeed plastic, they hold up remarkably well. Bolt pull is remarkably light given the power of the spring, but that's in no small part due to the previously mentioned 90deg sear system.

UPGRADING:
----Cylinder----
OEM cylinder is fine, stock spring guide is fine, stock spring will offer plenty of FPS. If you need a few extra FPS, the OEM setup can handle a little bit more than a .625 spacer. For the piston, you can opt to leave it stock and simply put a little bit of RTV sealant (or teflon tape) around the screw threads on the face of the piston, or you can go with a metal aftermarket piston (and beef up the spring a little to pick up the FPS you lose).

----Hop-Up and Barrel----
The stock bucking is notoriously weak, and usually lasts for 0-1k rds. If you don't want to spend over $150 in one order making her usable again, then AS SOON as you get the rifle in, call Leapers (you can find their number on the web, I'm not looking it up for you) and get them to send you 1-2 spare hopup unit hardware kits and 4-5 buckings. It's dirt cheap (sub-$25 for all of that I just mentioned) and will keep you operational for several thousand rounds. The reason you must do this ASAP is because the UTG/Leapers warranty only lasts 30 days, after which they won't let you buy any warranty parts directly from them.

If you DO want to upgrade the barrel and hopup unit, you must unfortunately do this all at once because the stock barrel has a unique chamber cut that does not match ANYTHING. The recommended replacement hopup unit is the one from PDI, which also converts it to accept AEG barrels and buckings. OEM length is 495mm, although the end of the outer barrel is at 499mm. With a silencer adaptor (not including the silencer length or a flash-hider, you can accommodate a 509mm IB. If you decide to use a shorter barrel, it's recommended that you purchase some aftermarket barrel spacers to properly support the IB.

Range out of the box is 150' solid*, with the capability of making semi-reliable torso hits at 200' given light winds*.

*unless you got a lemon, that is.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
